Celebrated Nigerian singer, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’Banj, has been cleared of the rape allegations leveled against him by one Miss Seyitan Babatayo.
In a letter dated July 17, 2020, addressed to the Nigerian Inspector-General of Police through her lawyer, Miss Babatayo said that she was withdrawing from the case for personal reasons.
“We hereby officially notify you of our client’s intention to withdraw and discontinue her petition against Mr. Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo aka D’Banj for personal reasons. Our client further humbly applies that the investigation and all other action that is currently being carried out by the police with respect to the statement.” The letter read in part.
Reacting to the letter, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin), Umar Sanda, said that investigation had seized due to lack of evidence.
A human rights group, Stand To End Rape Initiative (STER), said that Seyitan decided to end the case without receiving any monetary compensation or bribe.
Claridan TV recall that Seyitan Babatayo had accused D’banj of raping her at Glee Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, in December 2018.
Seyitan came out after her friend, Ese, called out D’banj for raping her.
D’banj’s former manager also alleged that Seyitan had called him one morning in December 2018 to inform him that the singer got the key to her hotel room and raped her.
Seyitan however filed a suit, demanding an apology from the singer.
D’banj on his own side denied the rape allegation and sued Seyitan for defamation. He demanded N100 million as compensation for the damage.
The Oliver Twist crooner D’banj was also accused of using his influence to intimidate and detain Seyitan unlawfully.
Miss Babatayo later released a statement claiming that she was detained and intimidated by men of D’banj.
She said that they took control of her social media account, deleted her tweets and forced her to make some tweets.
Seyitan Babatayo has now withdrawn the petition her lawyer filed against D’Banj and the police have discontinued the case against the musician.
